Edial Dekker studied New Media at the University of Amsterdam. He co-founded Hack de Overheid (Hack the Government) and actively contributed to Music Hack Day. Two playgrounds in two very different fields, both providing the ability and opportunity to create new forms of information and also make them accesible via various media and applications. Dekker currently lives in Berlin as the CEO of start up Gidsy. He was running a design studio in Berlin when he and his brother came up with the idea of Gidsy. The platform is seen as a form of collaborative consumption where people can make a few bucks from their more unusual talents. In short, Gidsy is a “marketplace for authentic experiences”, and it just landed a $1.2 million investment from a combination of Sunstone Capital, Index Ventures, Werner Vogels (CTO of Amazon), and the actor Ashton Kutcher.
